I make clover chains. I run in the rain. If my life were a song it would probably be a ballad. I sing in public restrooms -- they really do have the best acoustics; possibly better than concert halls, but I wouldn't know because I've never sung in one of those. I daydream - a LOT. I am stubbornly unrealistic and impractical -- I'll buy a costume before I buy real clothes any day. I am never consistent except about being inconsistent. I watch the same movies and read the same books and listen to the same songs over and over and over without getting sick of them. I get sick of everything else pretty much within the space of moments. I obsess shamelessly about things. I go barefoot when I can... and sometimes when I can't. I am very bad about asking for help and even worse at accepting it when offered. My greatest fear is not being good enough. I'll never grow out of liking to dress up. The glass is half full -- except when I break it. I like long flowy dresses. I read while brushing my teeth because I can't stand to do nothing (and yes, staring at myself in the mirror or wandering aimlessly aroudn the house qualifies as "nothing") for longer than 30 seconds. I really, really hate the phone. I want to be so much more than I am.

Since it's so much more interesting than my life history, I give you ME IN SONG LYRICS:

Personality *~~~
"Toughest of the tough -- but still a lady"
"Spinnin' laughin' dancin' to her favorite song"
"She only reveals what she wants you to see..."
"Crooked little smile on her face tells a tale of grace that's all her own"
"She never gives out and she never gives in; she just changes her mind"
"She does as she pleases; she's noboby's fool"
"She takes care of herself... she's ahead of her time"
"When everything's made to be broken, I just want you to know who I am"

On Friends...
"My heart is full and my door's always open - so come any time you want"
"Can't be too careful with your company"
"Sometimes I see myself fine; sometimes I need a witness/but there are nights I only need forgiveness"

Outlook:
"Our lives are better left to chance"
"Careening through the universe... axis on a tilt.. guiltless and free"
"Eyes wide open always hopin' for the sun, and she'll sing her song to anyone who comes along"
"I get my kicks above the waistline, sunshine"
"How long till my soul gets it right?"
"I believe he truly wouldn't care 'cause if you really tried he'd save a place for you there"

On the finer things...
"Man has no choice when he wants everything"

On the past ^^^
"I know it's been quite a long time since I sang a hymn without guilt in my eyes"
"I don't know what to say... tomorrow is a different day"
"At this point in my life I'd like to live as if only love matters -- as if redemption is in sight... as if the search to live honestly is all that anyone needs; no matter if you find it"
"Cast me gently into morning, for the night has been unkind"
"All the glory when he took our place/but he took my shoulders and he shook my face/and he takes and he takes and he takes."

On the future...
"What will be left when I've drawn my last breath/Besides the folks I've met and the folks who've known me/Will I discover a soul-saving love/Or just the dirt above and below me?"

Ambition!!
"How do you keep your feet on the ground when you know you were born to fly?"

On Love **~~
"It's not always rainbows and butterflies; it's compromise"
"A plate of stars can never take the place of the boy who swore to catch me as I ran through the rye"
"Nothing lasts forever and we both know hearts can change"
"Love can be rough around the edges - tattered at the seams"
"So knock me off my feet; c'mon now - give it to me; anything to make me feel alive"
"And [s]he wonders aloud how feelings so strong make the body so weak"
"[He] was gone before I ever got to say, 'Lay here, my love; you're the only shape I pray to"
"Oh, it's so hard to love when love was your great disappointment"
"I'll do anything for you... I'll do anything for you; I did everything for you... I did everything for you"
"Do you take this man forever?/I don't know about forever/But I'll take him every day"

About unrequited love:
"I had the strongest heart/it never would fail me/He must have been very smart/to somehow derail me"
"The gleam in your eye, it begged me to try/And it warned me I'd never succeed"
"And I will bare my soul in time... when I'm kneeling at your feet"
"He's just a boy, saving his heart for no one..."
"Don't touch don't look don't feel best of luck/she tried as hard as she could/but she knew it wasn't good enough and wouldn't ever be/so she had to start hiding how she felt/but she loved him and he knew it"
"When the words on my tongue, they're not the same ones/I speak to myself late at night"

I like music. All kinds. I'm quite convinced the world would be a much happier place if life had a soundtrack. Of course this would mean there would be a lot more spontaneous dancing and breaking in to song... and that's not for everybody. But anyway. I would have been a musician if only I could play something or write lyrics that aren't juvenile and trite. I'm not a huge "artist" fan (i.e pick an artist or group and become insatiable with anything and everything they put out; this phenonmenon is typified by the DMB crowd) with one notable exception: Nickel Creek. In general I discover new music by finding a song that I am ludicriously obsessed with because it speaks to me on that deep angsty-emotionally-overwrought level and branch out to see if there's anything else in the repertoire that matches up. Hence when I say I like an artist, it usually means "one or two choice songs that have won my approval by their stand-alone merit and I'm in the process of exploring others." Just to clarify in the event that those among you who have an encyclopedic knowledge of Jim Morrison's career don't dismiss me as a fraud when I fail to supply the precise number of hairs he had on his left arm. I am, it is safe to say, a jack of all trades but a master of none -- this goes for music as well as life. But I digress (I do this a lot) -- favorites are: Nickle Creek, Imogen Heap, The Duhks, Danny Schmidt, Allison Krauss & Union Station, Iron & Wine, Calexico, Sufjan Stevens, Great Big Sea, They Might Be Giants, Gillian Welch, Seven Nations, Sarah Slean, Dar Williams, Heather Nova, Imogen Heap, The Be Good Tanyas, The Tea Party, Sara Luneack, Lorenna McKennitt, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Kansas, Guns & Roses, Dylan, the Stones, Queen, John Denver, Peter, Paul & Mary, the Monkees, Janice Joplin, Steeleye Span, old school Madonna and Michael Jackson, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Prince, Aerosmith, Dire Straits, U2, Sting & the Police, David Bowie, Journey, 80s dance crap, Jewel, Sarah McLachlan, Tracy Chapman, Norah Jones, Pink Martini, Rosemary Clooney, Edith Piaf, Miles Davis, Etta James... oh hell if I listen to anything long enough I'll like it. Except rap and hardcore country. Not a fan.
